Teviotdale 60444 - 1876

Crew members take to the little boats just in the nick of time.

Before the ship's company of 27 abandoned the burning vessel, they equipped the three small boats with fresh water, hard biscuits, cabin ham, some tools, materials and a few supplies.  Each little boat carried nine men and it's share of meager supplies.  In this extract of one of the original paintings commissioned by George for his public lecture in 1909, you can clearly see the nine men in the nearest boat. The sailing rigs were fashioned from materials taken from the Teviotdale before taking to the little boats.
